The Day of the Dead is a multi-day celebration (November 2- November 30) of life and death, of light and shadows to celebrate those who left before us. The Aztecs thought grief was disrespectful to the dead and instead decided to celebrate their spirits, culminating in the earliest edition of the Día de Muertos (well, y es que in Mexico, any excuse is a good excuse for a fiesta!). We celebrate Día de Muertos with beautiful symbols, traditions and imagery. Altars or “ofrendas” are decorated with colorful and vibrant flowers, family photos of those who left, tequila, “papel picado”, tequila or mezcal and food.

To celebrate the Day of the Dead Nemi style, we created the Día de Muertos Box! This box includes everything you'll need to create your own “ofrenda” or altar at home with your familia and remember the amigxs and familia on the other side. The Día de Muertos Box includes most of the symbols found in Día de Muertos altars:
1. Earth (food): Nemi Snacks sample pack (one bag per flavor, total of 4), 2 hand-made sugar cookies by Alicia's Delicias (these sugar cookies are “cempasúchil” flower cookies, a type of flower specifically used for altars during Día de Muertos. Its unique bright orange color make the spirits feel joyful and peaceful.
2. Wind: 5 pieces of papel picado, colorful cut paper used in Mexican fiestas and holidays. Mexicans believe that the movement of the papel picado represents the wind.
3. Fire: 4 tea candles. Candles are often left in the form of a cross to represent the cardinal directions, so the spirits can find their way.
4. "Calaverita”: a calaverita is a small sugar skull (please don't eat it). These are placed on the altar and often have the name of the deceased person inscribed on the forehead.
5. Paper flowers: 2 hand-made paper flowers to add color to your altar. These flowers came directly from the Mercado de Coyaocán in Mexico City!
6. A Día de Muertos card explaining how to create an altar at home (we'll share a reel too!) and link to Día de Muertos Spotify playlist.
